Veteran actress Jaya Bachchan, known for speaking her mind on various topics, recently shared her thoughts on marriage at the We the Women event. The outspoken star, who has been married to Amitabh Bachchan for over 49 years, expressed her disapproval of marriage as an institution and stated that she wouldn't want her granddaughter Navya Naveli Nanda to get married. According to Jaya, marriage has become an outdated concept. She believes that the changing times and the intelligence of young people make it unnecessary. Jaya, who is now a grandmother, feels she's too old to advise young girls on parenting, citing that children today are more intelligent and can outsmart their elders. Jaya's comments come as no surprise, considering her outspoken nature. However, it's intriguing to note that she celebrates her 52nd wedding anniversary with Amitabh Bachchan this year. The couple has been married since June 3, 1973, and have two children, Shweta and Abhishek Bachchan. Navya Naveli Nanda, Jaya's granddaughter, has made a name for herself in the business world. She co-founded Aara Health, a health-tech platform, in 2020 and is currently pursuing a blended MBA programme at the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIM-A). Jaya's views on marriage contrast with her own long-lasting marriage to Amitabh Bachchan. It's worth noting that Jaya was last seen in Karan Johar's Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani (2023), alongside Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt. Despite her own experiences with marriage, Jaya remains firm in her stance that marriage is no longer a necessary institution for her family.
