Mumbai, Even as Aditya Dhar's 'Dhurandhar' dominated screens, the Marathi-language film 'Tighee' has carved its own space at the box office. Director Jeejivisha Kale's debut film delves into the bond between a terminally ill mother and her daughters, forcing them to confront personal demons and long-held secrets.
'Tighee' released on March 6 in 125 screens across Maharashtra, Goa, and Bengaluru, with English subtitles. The film has been praised for its emotionally charged narrative and performances by the lead actors.
Director Jeejivisha Kale expressed gratitude to the audience for carrying the weight of her film, saying 'It shows different stories can co-exist. The audience has carried the weight for me; once they know what they like, they make it their responsibility.'
The film will be screened at the New York Indian Film Festival next month, and critics have compared its emotional resonance to Shoojit Sircar's 'Piku'. However, Kale clarified that 'Piku' was never a reference point for her.
'Tighee' features three powerhouse actors: Bharti Achrekar, Neha Pendse, and Sonalee Kulkarni in the lead. The film received an A certificate from the CBFC 24 hours before its release, but director Kale expressed gratitude to her producers for their belief in the film.
