A high-stakes battle is unfolding in the Delhi High Court over the estate of late businessman Sunjay Kapur. His children, Samaira and Kiaan, have filed a lawsuit against their stepmother, Priya Kapur, accusing her of forging their father's will after his death in June. In a recent hearing, Sunjay's mother, Rani Kapur, leveled serious allegations against Priya, claiming she had never been informed about the existence of a will. Rani's lawyer questioned the likelihood of Sunjay leaving her out of the will, suggesting it was 'highly improbable' that he would leave his entire estate to Priya. Rani also accused Priya of acting swiftly to take control of Sunjay's assets, appointing a director at one of his companies just a day after his death. The lawyer argued that this move was a clear attempt to seize control of the assets, rather than allowing the family time to mourn. The court was also presented with discrepancies in Priya's financial submissions, with Rani's lawyer claiming that Sunjay's income was around ₹60 crore, while Priya had shown only ₹1.7 crore in bank accounts. The lawyer questioned why a man of Sunjay's stature and wealth did not have a life insurance policy or rental income. In a previous hearing, Rani had questioned how Priya had managed to transfer the entire estate to herself within just three months of their marriage. Rani claimed that she was left with no home and that Priya's actions were motivated by a 'vested interest'. The controversy surrounds Sunjay's estimated assets of around ₹30,000 crore, with Rani claiming that assets worth ₹10,000 crore should have been hers. The case has sparked intense debate, with Priya recently claiming that it is a 'healthy tradition' for a husband to give all his assets to his wife, citing Rani's example as evidence. However, Rani's lawyer has disputed this claim, arguing that fairness and transparency are essential in this matter.
