Actor Pankaj Tripathi is not only making waves on screen but also behind the camera as a producer. His latest venture, Perfect Family, a web series that explores themes of therapy, mental health, and personal growth, has just been released on YouTube. In an exclusive interview with HT, Tripathi talks about his journey into production, his experiences with mental health, and what inspired him to present Perfect Family. Tripathi reveals that he turned to production to focus on good storytelling, rather than personal gain. "Content is key, and the story is what matters," he emphasizes. He credits his friend and producer, Ajay Rai, for making the show, and Tripathi joined as presenter after being impressed by the first two episodes. Created by Palak Bhambri, Perfect Family is a heartwarming story about a dysfunctional urban family who undergo therapy together to address the mental health issues affecting their youngest member, a sensitive 9-year-old girl. Tripathi shares a personal anecdote about how he used to dismiss mental health as a non-issue, but has since changed his perspective. "Growing up in a village, I was taught to think differently, but when I came to the city, I realized that mental health is not just a problem for the wealthy or successful," he explains. The actor-producer credits his growth to being open to new ideas and perspectives. He recalls an incident where he judged a female batchmate for smoking during his NSD days, but later realized that his reaction was unfair. "I was doing something wrong," he admits. Palak Bhambri, the show's writer, explains that the key to tackling heavy topics like therapy and mental health is to approach them with sensitivity. "We wanted to make a show that is both entertaining and thought-provoking," she says. Perfect Family is available on YouTube, with a unique 'pay-as-you-watch' model. The first two episodes are free, while subsequent episodes require a small fee of ₹59. Tripathi believes that this model is a risk worth taking, as it allows the show to reach a wider audience. The show features a talented cast, including Gulshan Devaiah, Girija Oak, Neha Dhupia, Manoj Pahwa, and Seema Pahwa. With all eight episodes now available on YouTube, Perfect Family is a must-watch for anyone interested in thought-provoking storytelling.
