Bollywood filmmaker Rajiv Rai has expressed outrage over the unauthorized use of the iconic Saat Samundar track from his 1992 film Vishwatma in the teaser of Tu Meri Main Tera, a romantic comedy starring Kartik Aaryan and Ananya Panday. The 32-second teaser, released in December 2024, featured the opening beats of the song, prompting Rai to take swift action. According to Rai, his music label Saregama owns the distribution rights to his music, but his contract does not allow the label to license his compositions for use in other films without his permission. The filmmaker has confirmed that his lawyers will formally notify producer Karan Johar and the Tu Meri team, requesting them to stop using his music until proper permissions are obtained. This is not the first time Rai has faced such an issue. He recalled that the song Tip Tip Barsa Paani from his 1994 film Mohra was initially remixed for Sooryavanshi without his consent. However, the matter was eventually settled after a meeting with Rohit Shetty. On the other hand, Rai did grant the song Duniya Haseeno Ka Mela from his 1997 film Gupt for use in Aryan Khan's debut series, The Ba***ds of Bollywood, free of charge. Rai hopes for an amicable resolution to the current dispute, but warned that he will not hesitate to take legal action if necessary. Tu Meri Main Tera is scheduled for release on Christmas Day in 2025.
