Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana has left many fans underwhelmed with its recent teaser. The film, which boasts a massive budget, has been compared to Mani Ratnam's visually stunning Ponniyin Selvan films on social media.
Many users drew a comparison between the two films, praising Ponniyin Selvan's grand sets and beautiful costume designs. They noted that the film's success was due to its use of real locations and CGI, which gave it a timeless quality.
One user commented, 'Not everyone can be Mani Ratnam.' Another user praised Ponniyin Selvan's cinematography, saying, 'Mani Ratnam chose real locations over VFX & that's why Ponniyin Selvan will age like fine wine.'
The Ramayana teaser, on the other hand, has been criticized for its over-reliance on CGI. The film, which features Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama and Yash as Ravana, has a combined budget of ₹4,000 crore, making it the most expensive Indian film production.
Despite the criticism, Ramayana Part One is set to release worldwide in October 2026, ahead of Diwali.
