Actor Ranveer Singh has sparked controversy after mimicking a scene from Rishab Shetty's film Kantara at the IFFI 2025 closing ceremony. The incident occurred when Ranveer took the stage and exaggeratedly portrayed Rishab's 'Daiva' act, referring to the characters as 'ghosts' in error. In a post on Instagram, Ranveer apologized for his actions, stating that his intention was to highlight Rishab's impressive performance in the film. He expressed admiration for the actor's skill and acknowledged that he had unintentionally hurt some people's sentiments. The controversy began when Ranveer praised Rishab's performance at the IFFI ceremony and then imitated a scene from the film, leaving Rishab in stitches. However, his remarks and actions did not sit well with some social media users, who deemed them insensitive and disrespectful. Many took offense to the act itself, as well as Ranveer's misunderstanding of the 'daivas' as 'ghosts.' A Hindu group had filed a complaint with the police, alleging that Ranveer's actions had hurt their religious sentiments. Ranveer's upcoming film, Dhurandhar, is set to release this Friday, where he plays the role of an Indian spy infiltrating the gangs of Pakistan's Lyari Town. Ranveer had also seemingly disregarded Rishab's earlier warning not to mimic him during the event, further angering fans. In his apology, he expressed his respect for every culture, tradition, and belief in the country, and sincerely apologized for any hurt caused.
