A highly anticipated film starring Ranveer Singh, Dhurandhar, has landed in an unexpected controversy. The movie, directed by Aditya Dhar, was set to release soon, but the family of late Major Mohit Sharma has filed a petition in the Delhi High Court seeking a stay order. The petition claims that the film is based on the life of Major Sharma, who was a decorated officer and posthumously awarded the Ashoka Chakra and Sena Medal. The family alleges that the filmmakers did not seek their permission or that of the Indian Army before developing the film. According to the petition, the trailer and promotional materials bear a striking resemblance to Major Sharma's life and undercover missions in Kashmir. The family argues that the film commercializes their son's story without consent, calling it a 'commercial commodity' that cannot be altered for profit. The petition also claims that the film reveals sensitive military tactics and procedures without clearance, and that the filmmakers failed to consult the Additional Directorate General of Public Information (ADGPI) before portraying the Indian Army. Director Aditya Dhar had previously clarified that the film is not based on Major Sharma's life, stating that the filmmakers would consult the family and obtain consent if they were to make a biopic about the officer in the future. The Delhi High Court has yet to fix a date for the hearing, but the Sharma family has urged the court to ensure that all future portrayals of the Indian Army receive prior approval from the ADGPI to maintain accuracy and integrity. Dhurandhar stars Ranveer Singh, Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, and Sara Arjun, and was directed by Aditya Dhar.
