Kantara star and director Rishab Shetty has expressed discomfort with people mimicking daivas, a sensitive and sacred element in his film. This comes after a recent incident at a Behindwoods event in Chennai, where an individual performed a daiva act without permission. Rishab emphasized that as a filmmaker, he consulted with elders to ensure the portrayal of daivas was respectful in his movie. However, once the film is released, people tend to mimic it, which he finds uncomfortable. The daiva element is deeply connected to the culture and tradition of the people, Rishab stressed. The controversy surrounding daiva mimicry gained attention after actor Ranveer Singh was accused of mocking the daivas during the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa. Although Ranveer apologized for his actions, stating that his intention was to appreciate Rishab's performance, many felt that his actions were insensitive. Rishab's Kantara (2022) and its sequel, Kantara: Chapter 1 (2025), are the highest-grossing Kannada films in recent years, while Ranveer's Dhurandhar is currently running in theatres and is one of the year's top-grossing films.
