Homebound, which premiered at Cannes, has been selected as India's official entry for the Oscars in the Best International Film category. The film, inspired by Basharat Peer's 2020 New York Times article, tells the story of two friends, Shoaib (Ishaan Khatter) and Chandan (Vishal Jethwa), navigating life during the COVID-19 lockdown. Before the screening, Scorsese posed for photos with the Homebound team, including Khatter and Jethwa. The film's producer, Dharma Productions, shared glimpses from the event, describing it as "a night to remember." The cast and crew were joined by industry experts, including South actor Siddharth and filmmaker Mira Nair, who came to support the film's Oscar campaign. In a heartfelt post on X, Neeraj Ghaywan expressed his gratitude to Scorsese, saying, "I don't know what the future holds for this film, but this moment right here, sitting across from Martin Scorsese, is the biggest award for me." Ghaywan also revealed that Scorsese had calmed his nerves before their discussion by sharing a humorous anecdote.
