Actress Sushmita Sen, who played the role of chemistry teacher Miss Chandni Chopra in the 2004 film Main Hoon Na, has opened up about her experience wearing a red saree on set. In a recent podcast conversation, Sushmita shared that Farah Khan, the film's director, initially told her that her character would wear sarees throughout the movie. However, Sushmita had other plans, hoping to wear different costumes. According to Sushmita, Farah Khan decided to make the red saree a key part of her character's wardrobe. To achieve the desired effect, the production team used a massive storm fan to make Sushmita's hair appear to be flying in the wind. In a hilarious anecdote, Sushmita revealed that when she first wore the red saree on set, Farah Khan jokingly asked, 'Kya lungi baandhi hai?' or 'Why have you worn it as a lungi?' The comment was likely made in jest, as a lungi is a type of traditional Indian lower garment. Sushmita's character's saree was eventually tied lower to avoid any wardrobe malfunctions. Main Hoon Na, which marked Farah Khan's directorial debut, also starred Shah Rukh Khan, Suniel Shetty, Amrita Rao, and Zayed Khan. The film tells the story of Major Ram Sharma, who goes undercover as a university student to protect a general's daughter. Along the way, he falls in love with the chemistry professor, Chandni, played by Sushmita. The movie received positive reviews from critics upon its release in 2004.
