The highly anticipated sequel to the 2022 thriller Sisu, Sisu: Road to Revenge, is set to release worldwide on November 21. This time, the protagonist faces off against a formidable foe - Igor Draganov, a ruthless Soviet Red Army officer played by Hollywood veteran Stephen Lang. Ahead of the film's release, we caught up with Lang to talk about his role, typecasting, and more. Lang, known for his portrayals of morally ambiguous characters in films like Avatar and Don't Breathe, has faced criticism for being typecast in such roles. However, he takes it in stride, saying, 'If I dwelt on it, I should be hurt, because I am not as despicable as I appear to be.' The 73-year-old actor reveals that he chooses his roles carefully, opting for complex and intriguing characters despite the potential for typecasting. Lang's character, Igor, is a force to be reckoned with, embodying the antithesis of Sisu's hero, Aatami. 'He's the other side of the coin,' Lang explains. 'He's relentless, hard, tough, and has been through a very hard road in his life.' Lang's portrayal of Igor's layers of callousness and cold cruelty is a testament to his acting chops, and he believes it's a challenge he can sink his teeth into. As an actor with a career spanning over four decades, Lang has found success playing hardened villains and authority figures. However, he wants audiences to remember that there's more to him than meets the eye. 'You sell an illusion, an image,' he says. 'But I hope that the audience can see beyond that and realize that I'm different in real life.' After reprising his role as Colonel Miles Quaritch in James Cameron's Avatar: The Way of Water, Lang will once again take on the character in Avatar: Fire and Ash, set to release on December 19. With Sisu: Road to Revenge hitting theaters soon, fans can expect another gripping performance from the seasoned actor.
