A Texas grand jury has indicted 57-year-old Sigfredo Ceja Alvarez on a murder charge for the shooting death of 'King of the Hill' voice actor Jonathan Joss. The incident occurred on June 1, when Ceja Alvarez allegedly confronted Joss and his husband at their San Antonio home, which had been burned down in January. Joss' husband, Tristan Kern de Gonzales, claims that Ceja Alvarez yelled violent homophobic slurs before opening fire. While the Bexar County District Attorney's Office declined to comment on the matter, San Antonio Police Chief William McManus stated that the investigation is still ongoing and whether Joss' sexual orientation played a role in the shooting is still being determined. The grand jury returned the indictment on Monday, with Ceja Alvarez remaining free on a $200,000 bond. A friend of the late 59-year-old Joss revealed that the two had been neighbors and had a long-standing argument. Joss, who was 59, was the voice of John Redcorn, a Native American character on the popular animated series 'King of the Hill,' which ran from 1997 to 2008. He also had recurring roles on 'Parks and Recreation' and 'Tulsa King.' Under Texas law, a hate crime would be handled as an enhancement during sentencing, rather than as a separate charge. The district attorney's office stated that Ceja Alvarez is charged with murder, the most serious charge applicable to this crime under Texas law. As the case is still pending, no additional details can be released at this time.
