Renowned filmmaker Tigmanshu Dhulia has expressed his concerns over the current trend in Bollywood action films, which he believes are filled with excessive violence, bloodshed, and hyper-muscular heroes. Dhulia, known for his gritty and intense characters in films like 'Haasil' and 'Paan Singh Tomar,' feels that the new-age action heroes are more about 'demon-like' appearances than substance. Dhulia points out that films like 'KGF' and 'Kantara' have started a trend of violence and bloodshed on the big screen, which he believes is not only unnecessary but also disturbing. He attributes this trend to a societal anger that people are unable to express in real life, and as a result, they find solace in watching such films. However, Dhulia clarifies that his own films, which often feature alpha male characters, are different from the new-age action heroes. He believes that his characters are rooted in morality and are driven by a desire for freedom and a need to question authority. Dhulia's comments come at a time when films like 'Animal' are being criticized for their excessive violence and other issues. While Dhulia admits that he didn't entirely agree with some aspects of 'Animal,' he still enjoyed the film overall. The filmmaker's concerns highlight the need for a more nuanced approach to action films in Bollywood, one that balances entertainment with substance and sensitivity. As Dhulia puts it, 'I don't understand the DNA of such films, but personally, I don't like it at all.'
