Tom Cruise's 45-year career in Hollywood was celebrated in a big way on Sunday as he received an honorary Oscar. The actor, known for his daring stunts in films like 'Mission: Impossible,' was recognized for his contributions to the movie industry, including his work in 'Top Gun' and the 'Mission: Impossible' franchise. According to director Alejandro Inarritu, who worked with Cruise on a forthcoming film, the actor's talent goes beyond his signature stunts. 'It's how precisely he decides to move, those tiny calibrations,' Inarritu said in his introduction. Cruise, who is a four-time Oscar nominee but has yet to take home the award, was chosen for his dedication to the art form. He used his acceptance speech to talk about the impact cinema had on him as a child. 'Suddenly the world was so much larger than the one that I knew,' he said, recalling how he would work multiple jobs to earn money for movie tickets. In a heartfelt message, Cruise reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the movie industry, protecting its power and championing new voices. 'Making films is not what I do. It's who I am,' he declared. The gala also honored Dolly Parton with the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award for her philanthropic efforts, including establishing a library that has provided over 300 million books to children. Debbie Allen and production designer Wynn Thomas were also recognized for their contributions to the film industry.
