Mahesh Babu fans were eagerly awaiting the first glimpse of his upcoming film, Varanasi, directed by SS Rajamouli. However, the much-anticipated moment was marred by technical glitches and a premature leak of the trailer online. Speaking to the audience at the Globe Trotter event in Ramoji Film City, Hyderabad, Rajamouli expressed frustration with the situation, pointing out that a drone had been spotted flying over the venue the night before, attempting to capture the trailer before its official release. Rajamouli apologized to fans for the delay, explaining that the technical team had worked tirelessly overnight to ensure a seamless presentation, but the power supply was insufficient due to the power-hungry giant screen. He revealed that it took 45 generators to power the screen and that the team had worked until 2 AM the previous night to test the trailer. The director emphasized the magnitude of the effort that had gone into creating the film, which has been in the making for over a year, involving thousands of people and a significant budget. He expressed disappointment that the team's hard work was compromised by the premature leak. Varanasi is an epic film that spans centuries, hinting at a connection to the Ramayana. The film's announcement video showcases an asteroid falling to Earth, with fragments landing in various locations, including Varanasi, Antarctica, and Africa. The trailer, which has already been partially released, features Mahesh Babu as Rudhra, wielding a trishul (trident) while riding a bull. The film is scheduled for release in 2027 and also stars Prithviraj Sukumaran and Priyanka Chopra in key roles.
