Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader and actor-politician Vijay has requested the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to postpone questioning him further in the Karur stampede case. The reason cited for the delay is the upcoming release of his film, Jana Nayagan. TVK has also accused the CBI of several lapses in the investigation, suggesting that it may be politically influenced. Vijay appeared before the CBI on January 12 as a witness in the case. He requested a postponement due to the Pongal festival and the release of his film, which has been stuck in certification limbo. The film was initially scheduled for release on January 9 but is now awaiting clearance from the CBFC. The investigation into the September 27 stampede during a TVK rally led by Vijay has been marred by discrepancies. TVK general secretary CTR Nirmal Kumar pointed out that the Chief Minister and the Additional DGP provided different accounts of the number of police personnel present at the scene. Kumar claimed that this discrepancy raises questions about the integrity of the investigation. Meanwhile, the dispute over Jana Nayagan's release continues. The film's production house has filed a petition in the Supreme Court, which is scheduled to hear the case on January 19. The film, directed by H. Vinoth, also stars Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, and Mamitha Baiju.
