Disney's animated buddy cop comedy film, Zootopia 2, has set a new benchmark in China by raking in $104 million on its opening day, surpassing Avengers: Endgame's 6-year record. Directed by Jared Bush, the film is predicted to earn $525 million or more worldwide by Sunday, according to Deadline. In a remarkable turn of events, Zootopia 2 has become the biggest studio film of the year in China and boasts the best start for a US film since 2021. In local currency, the film has outdone Avengers: Endgame for the highest single-day gross for a Hollywood film in the market, with a staggering 160% increase from Friday. Avengers: Endgame had collected $100 million on its opening day in China. Zootopia 2 has secured the top spot among Friday Europe openers, except for the UK, where Wicked: For Good remains a crowd favorite. The film has achieved the highest animation opening day of 2025 and the third-highest opening day for Walt Disney Animation Studios, following Frozen 2 and Moana. Co-directors Jared Bush and Byron Howard shared insights into the film's inspiration, drawing from horror classics like The Shining and The Silence of the Lambs. Bush praised the score by Michael Giacchino, saying it perfectly captures the essence of the film. Zootopia 2, which premiered in Hollywood on November 13, 2025, features a star-studded cast, including Ginnifer Goodwin, Jason Bateman, Shakira, Idris Elba, and Jenny Slate. The film follows Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde as they go undercover to find Gary De'Snake, a mysterious new resident of Zootopia.
