According to Walt Disney Company, the animated film earned a staggering $156 million domestically and $400 million internationally, making it the biggest global opening of 2025 and the largest global animated film debut ever. The film's dominance in China is also a historic milestone. Zootopia 2 has broken the record for the highest-grossing animated foreign film in China, earning 1.95 billion yuan ($275.6 million) in its first six days of release. This achievement places it as the second-biggest foreign-language film opening of all time in China, just behind Marvel Studios' Avengers: Endgame. Zootopia 2 is the highly anticipated sequel to the 2016 animated hit, directed by Jared Bush and Byron Howard, and featuring the voice talents of Ginnifer Goodwin, Jason Bateman, and Ke Huy Quan. The film follows Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde as they investigate a mysterious reptilian resident in Zootopia. According to Jared Bush, Chief Creative Officer of Walt Disney Animation Studios, the enduring appeal of Zootopia lies in its ability to create a sense of universality through its animal characters. 'The real fun thing about Zootopia is that you can identify with an animal,' Bush said. 'It's you, it's your friend, it's your teacher, it's a guy you saw at the DMV. There's something very universal about that.'
