Michael Moshe Mizrahi, a Jewish community leader, has been identified as the victim in Monday's shooting in Montreal's Côte-des-Neiges neighbourhood.
According to CIJA, Mizrahi passed away, leaving behind a community in shock and grief.
The Chabad community has described Mizrahi as a beloved member who loved to celebrate with others and always had a kind word for someone else.
Early reporting from Chabad.org named Mizrahi as the civilian victim and described him as a member of the local Chabad community.
The shooting occurred at the intersection of Trans Island Avenue and de Courtrai Avenue, right outside a row of kosher shops, the Chabad-Lubavitch MADA Community Center, and several other synagogues and Jewish day schools.
Responding officers shot and killed the gunman, and a second gunman is said to have been taken into custody.
A police officer from Montreal was killed, and another officer was injured in the shooting.
