A Douglasville high school teacher, Maris Nichols, has been indicted on 27 counts of sexual offenses involving several students.
Nichols made her initial court appearance on Thursday morning, where she was informed of her rights and the charges against her.
Her case has been transferred to Superior Court, where a motions hearing is scheduled for Monday to address the issue of bond.
The indictment represents a significant advancement in the case, which commenced with two charges in May and has since expanded into a comprehensive criminal matter.
Nichols faces charges including sexual contact with students, grooming, child molestation, sexual exploitation of children, and attempts to tamper with evidence.
Among the 27 charges, only three are classified as misdemeanors.
The indictment claims that Nichols was employed at Alexander High School when she participated in sexual contact or sexually explicit conduct with students.
Nichols was initially apprehended on May 8 and granted a bond of $40,000 under strict conditions.
She was apprehended again on May 20 following the acquisition of further warrants and was mandated to comply with all previous bond conditions, including prohibiting any direct or indirect communication with victims.
