Indonesia on High Alert : The Ring of Fire's Fury
A series of volcanic eruptions killed at least 10 people in the eastern part of Indonesia, reducing houses to ashes in surrounding villages. The Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation reported that Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki, located in the southeastern part of Flores Island, erupted last night. This triggered more than a dozen earthquakes and forced authorities to evacuate several nearby villages.
Seven villages were damaged, and many residents have relocated to other villages. The government warned people to stay at least 7 km away from the danger zone, citing predictions of further earthquakes.
Indonesia's islands lie on the "Ring of Fire", where ocean plates collide, causing earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.
