The controversy surrounding Usha Vance's maternity wardrobe has taken a new turn after her husband JD Vance responded to a New York Times article with a joke about her budgeting skills.
Usha, the Second Lady of the United States, has been at the center of attention due to her fourth pregnancy, with the Vice President recently coming to her defense.
According to the article, Usha was seen wearing a bodycon Old Navy dress during a special Father's Day episode of her podcast, Storytime with the Second Lady, prompting New York Times fashion director Vanessa Friedman to argue that the choice was a deliberate political statement aimed at humanising the Vice President and advancing the MAGA movement's approach to feminism and fertility.
Usha responded to the article with humour, sharing the receipt for the dress and joking about her ability to buy it for $8.75, a fraction of the original price.
The New York Times piece titled "The Politics and Power of the Pregnancy Image" compared Usha's maternity wardrobe with that of two other prominent White House figures, Secretary Karoline Leavitt and Katie Miller, wife of Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller.
