A man in Hong Kong is on trial for allegedly murdering his girlfriend, claiming it was a 'mistake' while trying to help her lose weight.

The 29-year-old unemployed man, Ng Ka-sing, is accused of killing his 30-year-old partner, Yip, in 2022 at their flat in Hong Kong.

Prosecutors alleged that Ng killed Yip and then tried to dispose of the body, but he offered to plead guilty to the lesser offense of manslaughter, which was rejected.

Ng admitted to killing his girlfriend but claimed it was a mistake, saying he repeatedly stuck Yip with a rod to prevent her from sleeping while helping her lose weight.

He claimed that his partner had poured drain cleaner on the floor and asked him to splash some on her feet, and that she had hit herself against the wall multiple times after slipping on the floor.

However, prosecutors accused Ng of hiding the truth, saying he kept beating Yip the following day despite her allegedly asking him to stop.

The crime came to light when a passerby saw a leg protrude from a quilt that Ng had loaded onto a wheelboard, and Ng allegedly told police that Yip was his girlfriend and that he had hit her to death by mistake.
