A 76-year-old woman was killed when a Tesla car, allegedly using self-driving features, crashed into a house in Texas, US. Martha Avila was airlifted to hospital where she was declared dead.

Michael Butler, the driver, was injured in the crash. Investigators said there were no signs of intoxication and he was assisting with the inquiry.

The Tesla Model 3 veered off the road and crashed into the house at a high speed, striking Avila inside. A neighbour reported the car was moving very fast before it failed to stop.

Avila's daughter, Jennifer Barbour, said her mother's life was cut short and she didn't deserve to die in such a way.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the case.
