A tornado warning was issued for Dauphin County in Pennsylvania after a rotating thunderstorm was spotted near Harrisburg. The storm, which was moving at 45 mph, prompted a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Central Dauphin County, Northeastern Lancaster County, and Lebanon County until 7 p.m. EDT on Wednesday.
The National Weather Service in State College PA reported that the severe thunderstorm was located over Penn National Race Course and was capable of producing 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-size hail. The hazardous conditions could cause damage to vehicles from hail, while the strong winds may also lead to downed tree limbs and minor damage to structures.
The locations impacted by the severe thunderstorm include Lebanon, Hershey, Colonial Park, Progress, Palmyra, Linglestown, Annville, Cornwall, Myerstown, Paxtonia, Skyline View, and Denver. The Pennsylvania Turnpike, Interstate 78, Interstate 81, and Interstate 83 were also affected.
Although a tornado is not immediately likely, the National Weather Service warned that tornadoes can develop quickly during severe thunderstorms. In a separate incident, two people were killed in northwest Indiana when a tornado struck their home in Lake Village.
