UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has ruled out any NATO mission in the Hormuz Strait, despite pressure from US President Donald Trump.
Starmer confirmed he had discussed the situation with Trump and stated that Britain is working with allies to develop a 'viable' plan to reopen the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
He emphasized that the plan must be 'credible' and made clear that NATO would not be part of any operation, stating 'Let me be clear, that won't be and it's never been envisioned to be a NATO mission.'
Starmer's remarks followed comments from Trump, who described NATO's future as 'very bad' if allies failed to help reopen the strait.
The crisis has tested the special relationship between the UK and the US, but Starmer indicated that safeguarding Britain's interests remains his priority.
