Desperate Venezuelans rushed to find and rescue loved ones trapped beneath rubble after two major earthquakes that killed at least 235 people.
The quakes, measuring 7.2 and 7.5 in magnitude, hit northern Venezuela within minutes of each other on Wednesday night, causing widespread destruction and injuring over 1,500 people.
Rescue efforts were hindered by a shortage of trained personnel and technical limitations, but global rescue teams are on their way to assist.
Interim president Delcy Rodriguez visited the worst-hit area, La Guaira, and offers of support poured in from around the world, including the United States, which is deploying aid and rescue teams.
The UN chief, Antonio Guterres, expressed his deep sadness over the disaster and vowed to assist Venezuela in the relief efforts.
