Congress MP Shashi Tharoor recently highlighted the alarming air pollution in Delhi by re-sharing an old post from 2019. The image, which asks people to spend a few days in Delhi instead of wasting their lives on cigarettes and other pollutants, was originally captioned 'Six years of indifference later, this post remains sadly, frustratingly relevant still.' Tharoor's post coincides with the current air quality crisis in Delhi, where the Air Quality Index (AQI) has been consistently in the 'very poor' category over the past week. According to the Central Pollution Control Board, the AQI at 4 pm on November 8 was 361. The Delhi government has taken measures to combat pollution, including changing office hours and doubling parking fees. Despite these efforts, the city's air quality remains a major concern, with the AQI expected to rise further between November 15 and February 15. The crisis has been exacerbated by post-festival pollution, with the AQI plunging to 'hazardous' levels on November 7, according to data from Swiss monitor IQ Air. The city's residents are bracing themselves for a long and difficult winter, with pollution levels expected to remain high for several months.
