The BJP has criticized the Karnataka government's decision to introduce revised internal reservation within Scheduled Castes, while the Congress has defended the move as a long-pending measure backed by public support.
BJP leaders, including Chitradurga MP Govind Karjol and state president BY Vijayendra, have questioned the basis and impact of the decision, calling it arbitrary and a betrayal of marginalized communities.
However, Congress leaders, including minister Satish Jarkiholi and food and civil supplies minister KH Muniyappa, have defended the decision, describing it as a 'historic' step and a victory of decades of struggle.
The revised quota has been divided into 5.25%, 5.25%, and 4.5%, with the Congress claiming it fulfils long-standing demands of 101 Scheduled Caste communities, including the Madiga community.
The decision has been met with public approval, with Congress leaders saying it will provide opportunities for education, government jobs, and other benefits under the policy.
