The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) is scrambling to meet its target of printing 15 million Class 9 textbooks, with only 3 million copies sold so far, officials said.
Aligned with the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCFSE) 2023 and the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, NCERT has released new textbooks for Hindi, Sanskrit, English, science, mathematics, arts education, vocational education, and physical education.
However, the council is yet to release the textbook for social science and individuals in society.
Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan has directed officials to strengthen supply chains, augment printing capacity, and closely monitor last-mile delivery.
As an interim measure, digital textbooks are available through e-Pathshala to support uninterrupted learning until physical copies reach all students.
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued notices to the Union education ministry, Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), and all states and Union Territories (UT) over allegations of private schools prescribing costly books from private publishers.
