New Delhi, November 9 - Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on a two-day visit to Bhutan from November 11, aiming to bolster the "special ties of friendship and cooperation" between the two nations. During his visit, Modi will review bilateral relations, attend the inauguration of the 1,020-MW Punatsangchhu-II hydroelectric project, and participate in the 70th birth anniversary celebrations of former king Jigme Singye Wangchuck. Modi will meet Bhutan's King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, and jointly inaugurate the Punatsangchhu-II hydroelectric project. The visit also coincides with the exposition of sacred relics of Lord Buddha, which will be offered prayers at Tashichhodzong in Thimphu and the Global Peace Prayer Festival. India and Bhutan's partnership is described as "unique and exemplary", marked by deep mutual trust, goodwill, and respect. Modi's visit is expected to provide an opportunity for both sides to discuss ways to further enhance their bilateral partnership, exchange views on regional and wider issues of mutual interest, and explore opportunities for regional connectivity. India has announced plans to build the first two cross-border railway links with Bhutan at a cost of ₹4,033 crore, and has committed significant funding for Bhutan's five-year plans, economic stimulus programme, and programme grant. The visit is seen as a significant step towards strengthening India-Bhutan ties and driving economic integration and trade in the region.
