Rebel TMC leader Ritabrata Banerjee has been appointed leader of the opposition in the West Bengal assembly, backed by 58 MLAs. He has requested Mamata Banerjee to be their chief advisor.

Banerjee's appointment comes after the TMC expelled him and MLA Sandipan Saha over allegations of forged signatures on official documents.

The rebel camp has also announced a new leadership team, with Akhruzzaman as chief whip and Javed Ahmed Khan, Sandeepan Saha, Sabina Yasmin, and Shiuli Saha as deputy leaders.

The TMC leadership has dissolved all party committees and frontal organisations across West Bengal amid a power struggle.
