Aishwary Pratap Tomar, the world-class rifle shooter, has expressed frustration over the lack of job opportunities in his home state of Madhya Pradesh, despite his impressive achievements in the sport. Tomar, a two-time Olympian, won a silver medal at the recent World Championships in Cairo, equalling the world record score in qualification. This achievement has raised hopes that the state government, which has promised Tomar a job several times before, will finally keep its word. Tomar, 24, has been waiting for a job since the Tokyo Olympics, and his patience is wearing thin. He has received assurance of a job from the state government on multiple occasions, but nothing has materialized so far. The athlete has written to the BJP-led state government, stating that he will consider moving out of the state if he doesn't get a job. Tomar has been training at the MP State Shooting Academy in Bhopal, which has produced several top shooters for India. He has also received a cash award of ₹2.75 crore from the state government for his medals at the Asian Games. Despite his contributions to the state's sports department, Tomar is struggling to secure a job. In an interview with HT, Tomar said, 'I have been trying since the Tokyo Olympics, but nothing has worked out. I want to work in my home state, but my patience is running thin. I will wait till the National Championships before taking a final call.' Tomar's achievements in the sport are impressive, including winning multiple medals at ISSF World Cups, holding the No.1 rank in the world, and junior world record. He has also won four medals at the 2023 Asian Games, including individual medals in air rifle and 3P. Tomar's experience at the World Championships was tense, as he fought a close battle with reigning Olympic champion Liu Yukun in the final. Although he didn't win the gold medal, Tomar is proud of his achievement and is looking forward to the National Championships, where he will make a final decision on his future.
