New Delhi: The 2026 Glasgow Commonwealth Games' King's Baton Relay was officially launched in India on Tuesday, marking the beginning of a global journey that will promote unity, equality, and friendship among Commonwealth nations. The ceremony, attended by Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, IOA President PT Usha, and British High Commissioner Lindy Cameron, saw the dignitaries add their personal touches to the Baton, which will be displayed at various locations across India. The Baton will travel to 35 Commonwealth nations, starting in India, before reaching its next destination in Ahmedabad, which has been recommended to host the 2030 CWG. For the first time, every Commonwealth nation and territory will receive their own customisable Baton, allowing them to showcase their unique culture and heritage. Designed by visual artist Aaquib Wani, the India leg of the Baton features three sides depicting the country's flora, fauna, and scripts, highlighting its rich diversity. The Minister of Sports, Mansukh Mandaviya, expressed his excitement about the Baton's arrival in India, saying it will inspire people to take up sports and promote equality, friendship, and sportsmanship. The Commonwealth Games is not just about sports, but also about building bridges across cultures, empowering young people, and promoting sustainability and equality. British High Commissioner Lindy Cameron praised the innovative Baton relay programme, saying it embodies the values of the Commonwealth. IOA President PT Usha added that the relay will spread friendship, unity, and sporting spirit across Commonwealth nations. The Glasgow 2026 CWG King's Baton Relay is set to inspire a new generation of athletes and promote the values of the Commonwealth Games. The journey will continue to various Indian cities, universities, and locations, spreading the message of unity, peace, and friendship among nations.
