In a groundbreaking move, the Basketball Federation of India (BFI) and ACG Sports Pvt Ltd have launched India's first dedicated, year-round residential basketball High Performance Centre in Bengaluru. This state-of-the-art facility, located at the Lakshyan Academy, marks a significant milestone in the country's basketball journey, setting the stage for the inaugural season of the India Basketball League (IBL) in 2026. The HPC is a world-class facility designed to cultivate elite athletes capable of competing on the global stage. It boasts three FIBA-standard courts, a state-of-the-art strength and conditioning gymnasium, and a 25-metre swimming pool, among other amenities. The centre's integrated approach to high-performance basketball development brings together a team of experts in sports health, nutrition, physiotherapy, and mental conditioning to provide holistic athlete development. At the heart of the HPC is a cutting-edge 'phygital' approach that seamlessly merges physical training with digital analytics. Advanced wearable technology tracks real-time biometrics, movement patterns, and performance metrics, while smart court systems capture every nuance of training and gameplay. AI-powered analytics platforms process this data to provide comprehensive insights into player performance, extending into dedicated classrooms for interactive learning. Beyond athletic excellence, the HPC cultivates a comprehensive basketball lifestyle that nurtures the complete athlete. Professional recording studios and podcast production facilities enable players to build their personal brands and connect with fans. A basketball-themed barbershop and styling centre reinforces the sport's connection to cultural identity and leadership. The HPC is a critical component of a framework for a sustainable talent pipeline, from state-level scouting through elite development to professional competition and international representation. The IBL establishes India's first professional basketball ecosystem, enabling athletes to train, compete, and develop at the highest level. "We're building foundations that will last generations, creating opportunities for athletes who will become national heroes and ambassadors of India's sporting renaissance," said Jeremy Loeliger, Commissioner, IBL. The IBL Invitational Combine takes place on November 22-24, in Bengaluru, and a comprehensive All India regional try-out will be rolled out nationwide, ensuring aspiring athletes across every region have access to this pathway. The launch of the HPC is a testament to the BFI and ACG Sports' commitment to excellence, infrastructure, and athlete development. As Aadhav Arjuna, President, BFI, noted, "This is about creating national heroes and building a basketball culture that resonates across India." With the HPC operational and the league launching next year, India is poised to take a significant leap in its basketball journey.
