India has been awarded the hosting rights for the 2030 Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad, marking the country's first multi-disciplinary mega sporting event since the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi. The Commonwealth Sport (CS) General Assembly in Scotland approved Ahmedabad as the host city for the 2030 Games, which will be a special Centenary edition of the Commonwealth Games. This decision follows a thorough evaluation process overseen by the Commonwealth Sport Evaluation Committee, which assessed candidate cities against various criteria, including technical delivery, athlete experience, infrastructure, governance, and alignment with Commonwealth Sport values. The 2030 Games in Ahmedabad will celebrate the centenary of the inaugural Commonwealth Games held in Hamilton, Canada, in 1930. The event has been projected as 'The Games for the Next Century,' ensuring the Games remain relevant, impactful, and viable for the next century. The hosting of the Commonwealth Games has faced challenges in recent years, with Victoria pulling out as hosts for the 2026 edition due to cost escalation. However, Ahmedabad's bid proposal reflects India's commitment to deliver a Games that is 'sustainable, inclusive, and aligned with the CWG reset principles.' The 2030 Games in Ahmedabad will feature 15-17 sports, including Athletics, Swimming, Table Tennis, and Weightlifting. The host city is already in preparation mode, hosting several international sporting events, including the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship and the Asian Aquatics Championship. The decision confirms India's position as a major player in the Commonwealth Sport, with strong interest from other nations to host future Games. The 2030 Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad will be a milestone event, marking the start of a new golden era for Commonwealth Sport.
