In a joint statement, Indian football stars Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, Rahul Bheke, and Lallianzuala Chhangte have expressed their desperation to resume the Indian Super League (ISL) season. The league has been on hold since the contract between Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL) and the All India Football Federation (AIFF) expired in December. The players, who represent top ISL teams, are frustrated by the ongoing deadlock and urge the authorities to take action to revive the sport. "We want to play and now," Gurpreet wrote, emphasizing the importance of competitive football for India. As the situation continues to escalate, three clubs – Kerala Blasters, Mohun Bagan Super Giant, and Odisha FC – have suspended operations. Kerala Blasters captain Adrian Luna described the situation as an "existential crisis" for Indian football. The AIFF's failure to secure a commercial partner for the ISL, despite receiving no bids by the November 7 deadline, has further complicated the issue. Interested parties allegedly withdrew from the bid process due to a lack of representation in the governing council. The players are calling on the authorities to "match our desperation with honest intent" and work towards a resolution. As they face the "dark tunnel" of uncertainty, they remain committed to playing the sport they love and urge the authorities to take immediate action to ensure the ISL season resumes soon.
