The NASCAR community is reeling from the sudden death of 41-year-old driver Kyle Busch. Just days before his passing, ESPN's Marty Smith spoke to Busch, who was recovering from a sinus cold episode.

Busch had taken part in the NASCAR Watkins Glen race on May 10, but was hospitalized six days later after experiencing a severe illness. His family announced that he was undergoing treatment and would not participate in the NASCAR Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Smith, who spoke to Busch at length on May 16, expressed his shock and sadness at the news of Busch's passing. 'It's generally impossible to articulate what an incredible talent that Kyle Busch was,' Smith said.

NASCAR confirmed Busch's death in a joint statement with his family, extending their condolences to the Busch family, Richard Childress Racing, and the entire motorsports community.
