Elena Rybakina capped off a remarkable 2025 season by claiming the WTA Finals title in Riyadh, defeating world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka 6-3, 7-6 (0) on Sunday. The victory marked the Kazakh's first WTA Finals title and secured her a historic £4m prize cheque, the biggest payout in women's sports history. Rybakina's unbeaten run in the tournament earned her a total of £4m, surpassing the record prize money won by any singles Grand Slam winner, including Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner. Rybakina's impressive campaign saw her defeat Amanda Anisimova, Iga Swiatek, and Ekaterina Alexandrova in the group stages, each win worth £271k. She then added £986k for her semi-final victory over Jessica Pegula, before pocketing the £1.9m purse for her final win over Sabalenka. In contrast, the undefeated champion in the ongoing ATP Finals in Turin will receive £3.876m in prize money. When asked about her plans for the record-breaking winnings, Rybakina said, "It’s definitely a huge amount, and honestly, I didn’t think about any of that so much. But of course, it’s great, and we definitely need to celebrate really well with the team, family, and everyone.
