Boong director Lakshmipriya Devi has revealed how she couldn't edit the film for a long time due to emotional distress. Speaking with PTI, she said it took her a few months to look at the footage objectively.
The film, which won the BAFTA award recently, explores themes of love, discrimination, and belonging through the emotional cross-border journey of a child. Lakshmipriya said the film is not intentionally 'political' but rather a story of a boy living in a place where such things happen.
Boong, a Manipuri language film, was the only Indian film nominated at the awards and beat international competition to bag the trophy. The film had a limited theatrical release in September last year and re-released after its BAFTA win.
Lakshmipriya, niece of renowned Manipuri writer MK Binodini Devi, has been working in the Hindi film industry since the early 2000s as an assistant director on various movies.
