Actor Dimple Hayathi has come out in support of Janhvi Kapoor, who is facing criticism for her role in the film Peddi. Dimple took to her X account to urge viewers to hold the system accountable for the portrayal of women in the film.
She wrote, 'We actors get to work within the opportunities what we get trying to make it big and hoping we would be working in bigger films and reach wider audiences. If the characters are underwritten the responsibility lies more with writing and filmmaking choices than woman playing the role.'
Dimple also expressed her frustration with the stereotyping of actresses and the lack of opportunities to showcase their full potential. She added, 'We deserve better experiences and better filmmaking.'
Meanwhile, director Buchi Babu Sana has released a statement addressing the controversy surrounding Peddi. He apologised to viewers who felt uncomfortable and acknowledged the criticism directed at certain portions of the film.
Peddi has shown a strong hold at the box office despite the controversy, collecting ₹126 crore net in India and over ₹190 crore worldwide.
