A South Korean court has overturned the indecent assault conviction of actor Oh Young-soo, known for his role in the hit Netflix series Squid Game. The 81-year-old actor was found guilty in March of inappropriately hugging a female co-star in 2017, but a panel of judges in Suwon ruled on Tuesday that the evidence presented by prosecutors was insufficient to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. The case dates back to 2021 when the accuser filed a complaint, alleging that Oh Young-soo had held her hand and kissed her cheek forcefully. A police investigation was initially dropped, but the woman appealed to reopen the case, leading to Oh Young-soo's conviction in 2024. He was sentenced to an eight-month suspended term and two years of probation, as well as education on sexual violence. Oh Young-soo has consistently denied the charges and has now welcomed the court's decision. Prosecutors have a week to appeal the ruling, which could take the case to South Korea's Supreme Court. The overturned conviction has sparked a mixed reaction, with some expressing relief for the actor, while others have called for further action to be taken in light of the allegations.
