The highly anticipated release of Vijay's final film, Jana Nayagan, hit a major roadblock when the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) failed to issue a certificate on time. As a result, the film's makers were forced to postpone its release just two days before its scheduled premiere on January 9. According to industry trackers, over 450,000 tickets had already been sold worldwide, prompting ticketing platforms like BookMyShow to initiate a massive refund process. The exercise, estimated to have cost ₹1 crore in India alone, has been dubbed the largest refund in Indian cinema history. The delay was sparked by a last-minute request for certification, which led to a court battle between the film's makers and the CBFC. The Madras High Court eventually intervened, instructing the CBFC to issue a U/A 16+ certificate and clear the film for release. However, the certification process remains incomplete, with reports suggesting the CBFC intends to appeal the court's decision. Jana Nayagan, directed by H Vinoth and starring Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, and Mamitha Baiju, was set to be Vijay's swan song before he takes a plunge into politics. The postponement has sparked speculation about the delay being a calculated move to stall his fame. With no new release date announced, fans will have to wait for further updates on the highly anticipated film.
