New York City narrowly avoided disaster when two ISIS-trained extremists allegedly threw a homemade bomb containing the notorious 'Mother of Satan' explosive at a group of protestors outside Gracie Mansion.
Experts say TATP, known as the 'Mother of Satan', is preferred by terrorists due to its low cost, lethality, and ease of manufacture using materials from ordinary hardware stores.
The suspects, Ibraham Kayumi and Emir Balat, both 18, were identified by law enforcement and confessed to their actions, driven by anger over right-wing demonstrators 'insulting their religion'.
Following their arrest, police secured the device, a sports drink bottle filled with triacetone triperoxide (TATP), before its detonation, verifying it was significantly more perilous than initial reports suggested.
NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch stated that the bomb squad concluded it was 'an improvised explosive device that could have caused serious injury or death.'
