British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has vowed to fight on, despite calls to quit after his party's dismal performance in local elections. In an interview with the Observer, Starmer stated that his government is a '10-year project' and that he will lead the Labour Party into the next general election and serve a full second term.
Labour's losses in the local elections were the worst recorded by a governing party in over three decades, prompting several lawmakers to call for Starmer's removal. However, Starmer's cabinet has remained loyal, with Education Minister Bridget Phillipson expressing confidence in the prime minister's ability to turn things around.
Starmer must call Britain's next national election by 2029 at the latest, and if he remains in office until the end of a second five-year term, he would be the third-longest-serving continuous leader in Britain in the last two centuries.
