A brazen armed robbery occurred in the early hours of Tuesday at the residence of a prominent businessman in Vasco da Gama, Goa. Eight masked men, armed with iron rods, broke into the home of Sagar Nayak, attacking him and other family members, including his ageing mother and wife. The attackers demanded cash, which they allegedly found, and made off with valuables. Sagar Nayak, who sustained severe head injuries, was hospitalized. His brother, Prasad Nayak, reported that the robbers entered through a cut window grill and struck Sagar on the head when he resisted. The family's daughter escaped through a window and alerted her uncle about the robbery. This is the third reported incident of armed robbery targeting residents of apartments and independent houses in Goa this year. In April, a gang of robbers broke into the bungalow of 77-year-old Jaiprakash Dempo, and last month, a gang tied up a prominent doctor's family in north Goa and made off with ₹30-50 lakh worth of cash and jewelry. The South Goa superintendent of police, Tikam Singh Verma, confirmed a dacoity case has been registered, and they have some leads in the investigation. The police are urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
