Assam's chief minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, announced on social media that five individuals have been arrested for allegedly sharing inflammatory content related to the recent explosion at the Red Fort in New Delhi, which killed at least 10 people. The arrested individuals are Mattiur Rahman from Darrang, Hassan Ali Mondal from Goalpara, Abdul Latif from Chirang, Wajhul Kamal from Kamrup, and Nur Amin Ahmed from Bongaigaon. The Assam Police booked the five under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) after their social media posts and comments were deemed provocative. The police are monitoring social media activities in the state and have advised citizens not to share content that could be perceived as inflammatory or sensitive. This move comes after CM Sarma expressed concern over people posting 'happy emojis' after the blast, suggesting they may be sympathetic towards terrorists. A retired principal was also detained in Cachar district for making a politically motivated remark about the blast, but was later released with a notice. Assam Police has vowed to take swift action against those who misuse social media to spread hatred or glorify terror. The state is taking a proactive approach to maintain law and order, and ensure that social media is used responsibly.
