A search operation is underway in Assam's Dima Hasao district after three first-year students of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Silchar went missing on Saturday. The students reportedly fell into a waterfall in Harangajao village while on a group outing. According to eyewitnesses, one of the students slipped and fell into the water, prompting two others to jump in to rescue her. However, they too lost their footing and fell into the water. The incident occurred at the Boulsol waterfall, about 55 km from the NIT Silchar campus. The authorities at NIT Silchar confirmed that the three missing students are part of their institute. An official from the institute stated that the students had gone to the waterfall for a Saturday outing. The search operation is being led by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams from Haflong and Silchar, along with a team from NIT Silchar. The region is no stranger to such incidents, with a similar tragedy occurring in the past when two students from Assam University lost their lives after falling into a waterfall in Cachar district.
