A search operation is in full swing in Assam's Dima Hasao district after three first-year students of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Silchar went missing on Saturday. The students, reportedly fell into a waterfall in Harangajao village, about 55 km from the NIT Silchar campus, while on an outing. According to eyewitnesses, one of the girls slipped and fell into the water, and two others attempted to rescue her, but also fell into the waterfall. Authorities at NIT Silchar have confirmed that the missing students are part of the institute, and a team has been dispatched to the site. Rescue teams, including the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), are racing against time to locate the missing students. The Barak Valley region, where the incident occurred, is known for its scenic waterfalls, but this tragedy serves as a stark reminder of the risks involved. This is not the first time such an incident has occurred in the region. In a similar incident a few years ago, two students from Assam University lost their lives after falling into a waterfall in Cachar district. The families of the missing NIT Silchar students are anxiously waiting for news of their loved ones, and the community is holding its breath as the rescue efforts continue.
